Since 2002, the IRC has worked internationally with a focus on building and improving schools and health clinics in poor communities in the countries of Southeast Asia, initially in the rural populations of Cambodia bordering Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. Provinces targeted early include: Svay Rieng, Phrea Vihear, Battambang, Siem Reap, Ordom, Meanchey, Steung Treng, and Kampong Cham. The organization's overall goal is to help the people of these areas out of poverty through education and proper health care. IRC will also strive to achieve this goal by building basic infrastructure ith access to potable water, roads to access nearby villages, and man-made ponds stocked with fish as renewable food sources.
In addition to international work, the IRC has established a stateside community center in Middle Tennessee. The mission of the center is to help New American families from Southeast Asia improve job skills, manage their home life, and become active citizens in the United States. The center is also a place for New American families to celebrate their culture, while also being a place for Middle Tennesseans to learn more about their new neighbors and coworkers.
